Download every App Store review of an app, past Apple's 500 limit

Apple's public review feed stops at 500 reviews for each country. App Store Reviews Scraper reads past that, from Apple's full review history, and returns one row per review with the rating, title, text, date and the developer's reply, up to 100,000 for each app and country. It works for any app in any App Store country, and it needs no Apple developer account.

What you get

In our tests, the review history of one large app in the United States store went past 100,000 reviews. Collecting 3,000 reviews of one app took 16 seconds.

Each row is one review. Each app also gets one row of app details for each country, with type set to app, giving its average rating, its number of ratings and how many of each star it has.

appName, country
The app, and the App Store country the review was posted in.
rating
The stars the reviewer gave, from 1 to 5.
title, text
The review's headline and its full text, with the line breaks kept.
date
When the review was posted or last edited, in UTC.
version
The version of the app the reviewer was using, where Apple gives it.
thumbsUp
How many people marked the review as helpful.
developerReply
The developer's reply and its date, when there is one.
isEdited
Whether the reviewer edited the review.
userName
The nickname the reviewer chose to show, the only personal detail collected.
histogram, ratingsCount
On the app rows, how many ratings of each star the app has, and the total.

How to run it

  1. Open App Store Reviews Scraper on Apify (opens in a new tab) and choose Try for free, then sign in or create a free account.
  2. Under Apps, paste the app's App Store link, or the number at the end of it, one app per line.
  3. Under Countries, enter two-letter codes such as us, gb or de. Each country has different reviews; leave the field empty to use the country in each link.
  4. Set Max reviews per app and country. It is 200 unless you change it, and goes up to 100,000.
  5. If you want, choose an order under Sort by, pick the Star ratings to keep (1 and 2 stars for complaints), or enter a date, such as a launch day, under Only reviews newer than.
  6. Choose Start, then Export, and download CSV, Excel or JSON.
  7. To follow new reviews, turn on Only new reviews (monitoring mode), give the monitor a name, save the input as a task and schedule it daily under Schedules. Each run returns only the reviews you have not received before, so you never pay twice for one.

What it costs

Reviews cost US$0.10 per 1,000 on a free Apify account, and each row of app details costs US$0.002. So 1,000 reviews of one app in one country, with its app details, come to US$0.10.

The 5,000 newest reviews of three apps in the United States and the United Kingdom, 30,000 reviews in all, come to US$3.01. The price is lower on paid Apify plans, down to US$0.07 per 1,000 on Business, and reviews your filters leave out are never charged.

These prices are read from the tool's Apify page every hour, and that page always shows the current ones.

Limits

  • It reads up to 100,000 reviews of an app in each country. A few of the largest apps have more than that.
  • Apple publishes the app version only for the newest 500 and the most helpful 500 reviews in each country, so older reviews have no version.
  • If Apple's main review source is busy, the tool moves to Apple's other sources and says so in the run summary. The last of them stops at 500 reviews and has no developer replies.
  • Apple does not say which language a review is written in, so the language column is always empty.

When another way is better

For your own app, App Store Connect lists every review and lets you answer it, and its API gives your software the same reviews.

If you only need ratings, set the review limit to 0 and keep the app details, at US$0.002 a row for each app and country.

For Android apps, Google Play Reviews Scraper (opens in a new tab) does the same job on Google Play.

From your own code

One request starts a run and returns the reviews as a CSV file. The app is given by the number at the end of its App Store link. Use the API token from API & Integrations in Apify Console's settings. The request waits up to five minutes, which is plenty for a few thousand reviews.
